Attention vacationers in Croatia: This toll change affects every camper!

Croatia has changed the rules for vacationers. Here you can find out what this means for your next trip and how you can still travel through the country in a relaxed manner.

The most important information at a glance:

  • Higher tolls apply in Croatia from July 1, 2024

  • 10 % price increase for cars, motorcycles and motorhomes

  • New electronic toll system planned from 2025

Seasonal price increase for holidaymakers

From now on, you will have to dig deeper into your pockets if you use the Croatian highways with your camper. Since July 1, 2024, tolls for cars, motorcycles and motorhomes have increased by 10 percent. This seasonal increase is valid until September 30, 2024.

Reasons for the price adjustment

The Croatian highway company HAC justifies the price increase with the increased traffic volume in the summer months. Around 40 percent of annual traffic is concentrated at this time, which leads to higher costs for maintenance, safety and traffic management.

Examples of new prices

It is important for your vacation planning to know the new prices. The route from Zagreb to Dugopolje in the south now costs 26.40 euros instead of 24 euros. For the Zagreb-Rijeka route you now pay 10.10 euros instead of 9.20 euros.

Refueling will also become more expensive

In addition to the toll increase, you should also expect rising fuel costs. From July, the price of fuel is expected to rise by four to five cents per liter.

Looking to the future: new toll system from 2025

But there is also good news for campers: Croatia is planning to introduce an electronic toll system from 2025. This should improve the flow of traffic and reduce waiting times.

Advantages of the new system

The future toll system promises more convenience for travelers. You can then choose between electronic toll devices or license plate recognition. This means no more annoying stops at toll stations!

More environmentally friendly travel

The elimination of toll stations not only shortens your journey time, but also reduces fuel consumption. This is good for both your wallet and the environment.

Conclusion: higher costs, but improvements in sight

Even if the current price increases are annoying, a trip to Croatia is still worthwhile. With the knowledge of the new toll charges, you can plan your budget better. And in future, traveling through the country will be even more convenient thanks to the new toll system.
